Ewe Kente Weaving Before Weaving
Mensah Kpodoh for the Bedspread B1

Starching
To enable it to resist the tension in the loom,
the skeins of yarn are immersed
in a solution of starch
made from cassava root.
Then they are stretched out to dry.

From the reel rotating on the bottle (Atatupka),
the skeins are unwound with the spooler (
Etieomo)
and the yarn is wound on the bobbins (
Ayiti).

Warping
From the bobbins arranged on the creel (Loho),
the yarn is stretched between the stakes.
Then all the warp (
Avo) is wound up.
to form a ring.
This warp-ring (
Avotsihe) got name from the ring (Tsihe)
that is placed on the head
to support the carrying of heavy weights.
